John Stewart and Robert Robertson founded the Blair Athol distillery in 1798 . It was original called “Aldour” (the name comes from Allt Dour meaning “the burn of the otter”.
Their barley is lightly malted from Glen Ord maltings and the water used is drawn from the Allt Dour. The majority of the whisky distilled at Blair Athol is matured in ex-bourbon American refill casks. The whisky produced here is at the centre of Bell’s whisky which takes up more than 95% of its production.
