anCnoc UK Set - Rascan, Flaughter, Cutter & Rutter 4 x 70cl
Lot number: 072-0437
Winning bid: £170
The first official bottling of this distillery was in 1990, only three years before the first official bottling of anCnoc. The name change was by recent purchasers Inverhouse who were worried about confusion with another distillery (Knockando).
Rascan
This whisky is named after the 'rascan' a tool used for breaking up the top level of rough ground and prepare the land for harvesting. Peated to a level of 11.1ppm.
46% ABV / 70cl
Flaughter
The Flaughter spade is used to remove the top layer of peat which is richer, more rooty and produces more reek. This gives a heavier, smokier flavour to the whisky, in this case, with a PPM of 14.8.
46% ABV / 70cl
Cutter
The Cutter is a hand tool used to cut peat from less wet, shallower bogs. This means the peat it reveals is drier and therefore more easily burnt, producing a whisky that has a medium-heavy smokiness, in this case, with a phenol content of 20.5 ppm.
46% ABV / 70cl
Rutter
Peated to a level of 11.0 PPM (parts per million), the Rutter is the less peaty of the two first releases in the range. It is named after a type of spade used to size and separate peat blocks from one another.
46% ABV / 70cl
