Founded in 1954, Makers Mark is a family run distillery. The 'SIV' symbol stamped on the bottle symbolizes the family ownership, 'S' stands for the Samuels family. 'IV' states that Bill Sr was the 4th generation distiller. years later, Bill Jr discovered his father was actually a 6th generation distiller.
Makers Mark don't mind sharing exactly what goes into their spirit, 70% Corn, 16% Soft Red Winter Wheat and 14% Malted Barley.
Sealing each bottle is a time consuming task as each bottle is hand-dipped into their signature red wax by since 1958. Around half the standard bottling line quantity at 125 bottles per minute.
The Private Select is created using casks made from specially selected staves, chosen by Rob Samuels, to give the whiskey a unique finish.
The staves used for this expression include Seared French Cuvee, Roasted French Mocha and Toasted French Spice.
