Lot number: 077-4056

Winning bid: £80

Mothballed by previous owners Whyte & Mackay, Bruichladdich distillery was revived in the year 2000 by indy bottler Murray McDavid. For a long time the distillery was the black sheep of Islay, on account of producing unpeated whisky in order to meet its owner's blending requirements. Contrary to general expectations though, this also made it a hit with the locals who were presumably sick of the sight of peat.

Since its resurrection, and under the guiding hand of maestro Jim McEwan, Bruichladdich hasn't shied away from experimentation in cask management, quadruple distillation, love-it-or-hate-it presentation, and the introduction of the heavily peated Port Charlotte and (REALLY heavily peated) Octomore ranges. Oh, and they make a mean gin too.

Following on from the Organic 2003 vintage, this release is a multi-vintage vatting in which Jim McEwan has brought together the finest organic barley from farmers and partners, Sir William Roberts of Mains of Tullibardine, William Rose at Mid Coul and Neil Scobie at Coulmore.

This single malt whisky was, in 2011, awarded “exceptional” status and three stars by the tasters of the prestigious Gault Millau and Michelin Superior Taste Awards – the only spirit to be so recognised. and these guys know their stuff.

This bottle is accompanied by a branded ceramic water jug & glass.

46% ABV / 50cl
