Wolfburn (of Thurso) has recently wrested the title of Scotland's most northerly mainland distillery from Old Pulteney (the Wick-based maritime malt masters). Having only gained approval for the new distillery (which lies a short distance from the old one, but draws its water from the same "Wolf Burn") in 2012, the owners managed to produce the first spirit in early 2013.
Bottled for the 2017 Dornoch whisky festival.
