J.Bally was one of the first Martinique distilleries to produce rum and be granted an A.O.C. status. Inspired by the makings of cognac, Jacques Bally was the first to let his rum age in barrels. After studying Arts & Engineering in Paris, he bought a piece of land in the mountainous region of Martinique, called Lajus, which possessed sugar fields, a water mill and built his own distilling equipment. J.Bally's rum grew rapidly to be a success.
