The Frapin family have been in the Cognac region of France since at least 1210, and have been producing their own spirits for most of that time. They now have the largest single estate in the Grande Champagne region of Cognac. They are also the only Cognac producers entitled to use the name "Chateau" in their title because the whole process, from harvesting, distilling, ageing and finally bottling, takes place on their estate.
The XO has undergone a long ageing, with an average barrel age of 18-20 years from date of harvest – as opposed to a minimum 6 ½ years required by law. This results in very special cognac indeed.
