Masataka Taketsuru is known as grand father of the Japanese whisky industry. He travelled to Scotland to study Organic Chemistry at University of Glasgow during the summers. Later started working in Hazelburn before it was absorbed by Springbank. Coming back to Japan he helped to establish the first Japanese Whisky Distillery.
From the incomparable Dekanta The Miyagikyo distillery was built in 1969 as a counterpart to the Yoichi distillery. It produces fruity malts.
