Craigellachie 2003 12 Year Old Douglas of Drumlanrig
Lot number: 085-4800
Winning bid: £70
Craigellachie gained importance when the railway lines connecting Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth met within the region in 1863, allowing people and goods to be easily transported across the country. The Craigellachie distillery was built in 1891 and initially owned by Sir Peter Mackie (of White Horse) and Alexander Edward. However Edward departed the distillery shortly after it began producing in 1898, leaving in entirely in the hands of White Horse.
The single malt is recognised for its tropical fruit and floral notes due to long fermentation, a reputation which it has kept, even after passing through the hands of DCL, and into Dewar's. The distillery is now enjoying a bit of a renaissance, with its excellent 31 Year Old winning the title of "Best Single Malt" at the 2017 World Whisky Awards.
