In 1869 the Ripy brothers opened their distillery on Wild Turkey Hill in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Wild Turkey Bourbon got its name in 1940 when distillery executive Thomas McCarthy took samples of the bourbon on a wild turkey hunting trip.
The 1855 reserve is essentially the more common barrel proof "Rare Breed" expression, that has been relabelled for export.
