Tomatin distillery was founded in 1897 and spent most of it's life producing whisky for the blending industry. In the 1970s it was Scotland's biggest producer of single malt whisky. In 1986 Tomatin distillery became the first fully Japanese owned Scottish distillery when Takara Shuzo joined forces with trading company Okura.

The first 200 were bottled at 90cl and presented to staff and guests at their centenary lunch on September 3rd, 1997.
