The Highland distillery of Knockdhu was built in 1877, marking the genesis of The Distillers Company (DCL), who would later evolve into industry giant Diageo. Used almost exclusively as blending stock, It didn't become known as a single malt until (under the new ownership of Inver House) its first official expression was released onto the market in 1990.
After a short time, the rather wise decision was taken to create the brand name “anCnoc”, and while it's pronunciation may not be immediately obvious, it had the desired effect of avoiding confusion with Knockando.
Peatlands joins Tushkar, Rutter, Flaughter and Cutter in the award-winning collection, carrying the name of traditional peat cutting tools, bringing them into the spotlight as the unsung heroes.
Like its sister expressions, it retains the signature dark smokiness but with a phenol content of 9 PPM, Peatlands has a delicate and more gentle finish. This limited edition whisky launched exclusively in Scandinavia, Western and Eastern Europe.
