The Glenglassaugh distillery has had a turbulent history since being founded by James Moir in 1873; opening and closing no less than 7 times in 125 years. Always popular with blenders, single malt releases were limited for most of its very irregular working life. Currently owned by the BenRiach Distillery Company, which purchased the distillery in 2013, the distillery's focus is now firmly on the single malt market.
The BenRiach Distillery Company have been spending recent years trying to overturn Glenglassaugh's lack of presence in the malt market - not helped by the fact that no whisky produced at the distillery from 1986 to 2008 - and attempt to make it as well-known as their other distilleries, BenRiach and GlenDronach.
Bottled as part of Glenglassaugh's rare releases, this is the 1972 vintage single cask. It forms part of the 8 vintage release.
