A very warm welcome to our New Year auction and ‘lang may yer lum reek,’ a scots new years phrase meaning ‘may you never be without fuel for your fire!’ If that’s still a bit too literary, just know that we’re wishing you a plentiful and whisky-filled New Year!

We’re live on the 25th of January, which also happens to mark a significant date here in Scotland; Burns Night, where we spend the day celebrating the life and works of famous Scots poet, Robert Burns. What better way to toast the Bard himself than with a Special Johnnie Walker Blue Label Robert Burns Limited Edition! The bottle itself celebrates the great Rabbie Burns - the lyrics from his song "Rantin' Rovin' Robin" are etched on its front:

"25th January 1759, For William To celebrate on this day the birth of your first born, Robert. He'll hae misfortunes great an sma, but ay a heart aboon them a He'll be a credit till us a We'll a be proud o Robert. John Walker.''

Let’s also give a mention to the two special and rather rare Glenfarcli (plural) we have in this month. The first is the 50 Year Old, bottled exclusively for The Whisky Exchange. This is one of only 87 bottles released from a single refill sherry cask, and comes in a crystal decanter with an exquisite solid hardwood case. The second is a 1978 vintage single cask and appears to have been released for the Vietnamese Market. It’s certainly a first bottling for us; only 192 bottles were ever released!

Another first for us this month is the delightful miniature set of Karuizawa 1999 & 2000, 'The Golden House of Five Mistress Collection.' These five bottles embody the style of ukiyo-e painting, a Japanese artwork genre literally translating to “pictures of the floating world.’’ Each Mistress sits above a whopping 60% ABV and have all been matured in sherry casks.

Another bottle that may draw your attention this month is the Yamazaki 1998 Single Cask. It may be a little on the younger side, but it is as dark as anything, and has enjoyed outstanding reviews so far! These exclusive single cask bottlings have been matured in sherry casks, as anyone could see from the rich colour, and they are becoming harder and harder to get your hands on these days.

That’s our lot so now on to you: get bidding! Less of the January Blues and more of the January Booze. ‘Owre a glass o’ whisky,’ let’s toast to The Bard, and of course, to ‘the guid auld Scotch drink!’
