Lot number: 096-04017

Winning bid: £1,900

One of the few distilleries still using worm tubs, Speyburn was pretty much unchanged since its creation in 1897; this was until a major expansion that began in 2014. Now capable of producing over 4 million litres of spirit a year, it is one of the top ten single malts in the USA - perhaps helped by its previous American owner - and it is also the biggest selling malt in the Inver House stable.

United Distillers started the Flora & Fauna range to give the whisky drinker the opportunity to try the whisky that was usually only released in their blends (Johnnie Walker and such). However in the very early days of the series, United Distillers sold Speyburn distillery to Inver House Distillers making it the rarest of the rarest of the Flora & Fauna range. You could even say it's the "Holy Grail" for the Flora & Fauna collectors!

Distillery: Speyburn
