Martell is the oldest of the great cognac houses with its foundation in 1715 on the banks of the Charente when a Jersey-born merchant called Jean Martell created his own trading company. Since then the passion has been passed down through generations of the Martell family and has always been associated with luxury: it was served on the Queen Mary in 1936 and on Concorde in the 1970s.

The first version of L'Or, the "Golden Cognac" by Martell, bottled in the 1990s and presented in an elegant Baccarat Crystal decanter sealed in 24-carat gold.

Highly sought among collectors not only because the exquisite decanter by also for the excellent mix of eaux-de-vie, coming predominantly from the Grande Champagne area and the rest from the Borderies, averaging at the time of bottling at around 60-years
