Lot number: 101-02009

Winning bid: £190

Dalmore distillery was used as a deep-sea mine production centre by the Royal Navy between 1917 and 1920. After the navy departed, the distillery was left in tatters, and - after a long compensation battle involving the House of Lords - the distillery was brought back online in 1922. Now Dalmore, under the stewardship of Richard Paterson, presents itself as a luxury brand with a history of wealthy backers, with some of its bottlings among the most expensive in the world.

This Dalmore started life in American white oak bourbon barrels and then was married for 15 months in Matusalem Oloroso sherry wood from Gonzalez Byass, Spain.

Distilled: 2000
