The Powers distillery was founded in 1791 in Johns Lane by the Power family and it was one of the first distilleries in the world to bottle its own whiskey. The distillery was vastly extended in 1871 and covered 7 acres and employed roughly 300 people. The Powers blend is created using the (uniquely Irish) single pot still approach and blended and matured with a grain whiskey. They are also known for the signature Powers glass tumbler which has a thick base so that the whiskey sits precisely in the middle of the glass and the spirit is not effected by the heat of the drinker's hand.
