Appleton Estate - the oldest and possibly most famous of Jamaica's sugarcane estates - is known for its long ageing process which creates rich butterscotch flavours. The distillery is based in the beautiful and fertile Nassau Valley and is the only rum in the world to have a terroir (a specific climate, soil, and geographic distinction) as unique as in this setting. Every process throughout production is carefully managed using the selection of sugarcane varieties grown on the estate and the natural culture of yeast used in the fermentation stage.
In 1997 Appleton Estate's Joy Spence became the first woman in the world to become a Master Blender of rum. In fact, her sense of smell is so good that she is employed by NASA as part of their sensory panel!
This release was bottled in celebration of Joy's 20th anniversary as Master Blender.
