With its distinctive square bottle, its label angled precisely at 24° and the iconic Striding Man, Johnnie Walker is the world’s best selling Scotch whisky retailing more than 20 million cases a year. It was first created in Kilmarnock in 1865 and is now available in almost every country in the world with the establishment of significant ‘Houses’ across Asia. Between 1906 & 1909 John Walker’s grandsons introduced the colour names which the bottles still bear to this day with the Blue Label - introduced in 1992 - being the rarest.
United Distillers designed an ultra-luxury blended whisky from some old low ABV whisky during The Whisky Loch, and released it as Johnnie Walker Oldest in 1987. The notation “Aged 15 to 60 years” conspicuously vanished from the labels after the first couple of batches. Keeping its label and packaging design, it became Johnnie Walker Blue Label in 1992. The standard Blue Label’s bottle has gotten a little bluer and more angular with time, while the whisky itself has never been provided with an age statement. The 1990’s bottles also came with a small booklet.
