Another disclaimer here from the SWA team, we're certainly no experts when it comes to Shochu! As Japan's other indigenous drink, the main difference between Sake and Shochu is that Shochu is distilled.
This is a barley and sweet potato, distilled wine from an island near Tokyo called Hachijojima. This island is traditionally the main production center for Shochu and much of the sweet potato used to make this unusual spirit, is harvested there. Although Shochu is very popular in Japan, we do know that sightings of this particular bottle are not that common.
