This is an interesting bottle of "whisky", as under SWA rules it wouldn't qualify as whisky, having been bottled at 37% ABV. However, this is an early bottling of Karuizawa so we'll let it pass.
What's interesting about this Karuizawa blend? These days we're more used to seeing the distillery's whisky bottled under the Number One Drinks company label, but this bottle was produced by Mercian. Not as well known on these shores, but they were Mercian Wines company, who founded the distillery. This bottle comes from the 1990s when the owners were concentrating on making premium blends from the whiskies made at the distillery.
Certainly an intriguing glimpse into Karuizawa's past.
