Black Dog 12 Year Old 1L
Lot number: 102-01971
Winning bid: £30
Founded in 1882 by Charles Mackay and James Whyte, the company's first blended whisky was Whyte & Mackay Special and proved hugely popular in the UK and other English-speaking countries worldwide. Over the years, Whyte & Mackay have either taken over or merged with the owners of several distilleries including Dalmore, Fettercairn and Tomintoul, and later, their own grain distillery; Invergordon.
It is claimed that the secret to the award-winning taste is the triple maturation process and the way it blends, making sure no single whisky dominates another.
Originally created by Mackinlay's of Leith for Walter Millard, the whisky was named Black Dog in honour of his favourite salmon fishing fly.
