Lot number: 102-02290
Winning bid: £320
A cognac brand first produced by Jules Gallois and Felix Courvoisier in the mid-19th century in the region of Charente in France - although their respective fathers Louis and Emmanuel had developed their brandy-making reputation during the Napoleonic Wars - Courvoisier was then bought by an English family who established the identity of the cognac with its recognisable Josephine bottle and Napoleon's shadow as a logo. The cognac was notably prevalent in Charles Dickens' spirit collection after his passing and was famously requested for the grand opening of the Eiffel Tower. Courvoisier now belongs to Beam Suntory and continues to produce elegant and stylish cognacs.
This specific Courvoisier comes from a collection of seven rare and old Cognacs. All the labels were designed by deco art artist Erte during the 1980's and the bottle contains some cognac as old as 1892.
