Lot number: 133-05140

Winning bid: £65

Wolfburn (of Thurso) has recently wrestled the title of Scotland's most northerly mainland distillery from Old Pulteney, the Wick-based maritime malt masters. Having only gained approval for the new distillery - which lies a short distance from the old one, but draws its water from the same "Wolf Burn" - in 2012, the owners managed to produce the first spirit in early 2013. Very early on in the distillery's formation, the company cleverly hired Shane Fraser who was formerly manager of Glenfarclas.

The release consists of 1,550 bottles in total with spirit matured for seven years purely in ex-bourbon quarter casks, natural colour and non-chill filtered. These little casks have done a lovely job of producing a stellar single malt whisky, easy-drinking with an excellent depth of flavour.

Bottled: 2022

46% ABV / 70cl

Bottle Number: One of 1550 bottles released
