Summer has landed and so has our bumper 133rd auction! We have nearly 8000 bottles to choose from this month, so what better time to stock up for the (hopefully) sunny months to come. With so many bottles to peruse it’ll take a while to see them all, so to save you time here are a few highlights we’ve picked out from this month’s auction.

Distilled way back in the fifties the Macallan 1950 Tales of the Macallan Volume 1 is a tremendous whisky bottled in a retro Lalique decanter, which is itself housed in a weighty 800-page almanac. This release pays homage to Captain John Grant the Laird of Easter Elchies who is remembered by Macallan as their “first true custodian” and is the first release in a series of single malts to be released celebrating the pioneering personalities behind this the most famous of Speyside’s distilleries.

Staying with The Macallan we also have a Macallan 40 Year Old The Red Collection this month, a marvellous release from the three part set, The Red Collection. This expression is noteworthy for having been crafted by The Macallan’s first female Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell, who took up the reins in 2019. This bottle has been slowly creeping up in value since it’s initial release and is sure to command a premium at auction.

From the North East of Scotland to the Far East of Asia, we also have a couple of beauties from the Land of the Rising Sun this month which deserve some attention. First up the Yamazaki 1984 25th Anniversary is a bottle as rare as it is prized. Winner of the coveted gold medal at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in 2009, this is a whisky with real pedigree. Rarely seen at auction this your chance to purchase something truly special.

When it comes to rare Japanese whisky Karuizawa reigns supreme, and this Karuizawa 35 Year Old Emerald Geisha Cask 8518 is superb relic of the now silent Japanese heavyweight. Aged for 35 years in a single bourbon cask the whisky itself has taken on a wonderful amber hue before being bottled by Elixir Distillers for release to a welcoming market. This release has almost tripled in value on the secondary market since its release and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Finally, we have another rare bottle, this time from the Victorian era’s whisky capital, Campbeltown. The Springbank 50 Year Old Millennium Collection 75cl, part of the famed Millennium Collection from Springbank, is amongst the oldest whiskies ever bottled by the esteemed Campbeltown distillery. Another one we don’t see too often; this is a US import version meaning you get an extra 5cl of goodness for your money!

Well without further ado it’s time to get scrolling and building that watchlist, happy bidding and best of luck in the auction and as always, don’t lose your bottle.
