The Glenglassaugh distillery has had a turbulent history since being founded by James Moir in 1873; opening and closing no less than 7 times in 125 years. Always popular with blenders, single malt releases were limited for most of its very irregular working life. Currently owned by the BenRiach Distillery Company, which purchased the distillery in 2013, the distillery’s focus is now firmly on the single malt market. The BenRiach Distillery Company have spent recent years trying to overturn Glenglassaugh’s lack of presence in the malt market. This was not helped by the fact that no whisky was produced at the distillery between 1986 and 2008. They are aiming to make it as well-known as their other distilleries, BenRiach and GlenDronach.
