Tomatin distillery was founded in 1897 and spent most of it's life producing whisky for the blending industry. In the 1970s it was Scotland's biggest producer of single malt whisky. In 1986 Tomatin distillery became the first fully Japanese owned Scottish distillery when Takara Shuzo joined forces with trading company Okura.
Nestled in the mountains just south of Inverness, Tomatin is one of the highest distilleries in Scotland at over 1000 feet above sea level.
This bottle is a snapshot of the distillery's spirit in the mid-60's, and was released a few years after the distillery was taken over by Takara Shuzo and Okara & Co of Japan.
