In 1869 the Ripy brothers opened their distillery on Wild Turkey Hill in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Wild Turkey Bourbon got its name in 1940 when distillery executive Thomas McCarthy took samples of the bourbon on a wild turkey hunting trip. The distillery praises their master distiller Jimmy Russell who is the longest-tenured active master distiller in the world and learned techniques from Ernest W. Ripy, son of the original distiller. Famous in the bourbon world, Jimmy Russell has been at the distillery through consistent success after success.
