Winning bid: £200

Glenfiddich was founded in Dufftown by William Grant, who had honed his craft at Mortlach distillery; and on Christmas Day 1887 the first spirit ran from the stills. Thanks to Grant's tenacity and stubborn self belief, the distillery flourished during a period of turbulence in the industry, and has grown to become one of the best selling brands of single malt whisky in the world, only occasionally trading the number one spot with fellow Speyside behemoth, Glenlivet.

Still owned by the Grant family today, the pioneering distillery is responsible for a lot of "firsts" in whisky world. Perhaps most importantly, they were the first to really promote the idea of drinking whisky as a single malt as opposed to in blends. They were also the first distillery to open their doors to the public, sparking a trend that has undoubtedly benefited the Scottish tourist industry greatly.

Boasting a solid core range of expressions that are easily accessible to whisky newcomers, yet have layers of complexity that appeal to seasoned connoisseurs alike. There's a reason Glenfiddich is numero uno!

Scotch Whisky Auctions - for Blameless Charity Bottling

This special bottle is unique to Scotch Whisky Auctions. The eagle eyed amongst you may notice that this shares a cask number with the 2016 Spirit of Speyside Festival bottle. Once the festival was over, the remaining spirit from the Sherry Butt was re-racked in an American oak Bourbon cask for a further year.

Master Blender Brian Kinsman has this to say:

"It is a lovely expression of Glenfiddich from a 2nd fill sherry butt where the influence of the Spanish oak is nicely balanced with the rich fruity character of Glenfiddich. Rich and sweet with hints of dry tannin, soft spice and dried fruits."
