The 131st Auction
Ended May 8, 2022
The months are fairly flying past now and the bumper auctions just keep on coming, so without further ado welcome to this our 131st auction.
This month we have nearly 8000 bottles of sweetness to choose from, so no matter your favourite tipple we’re bound to have something that suits your palate. With an auction this big we know it can be hard to spot everything you are looking for, so as always we’ve endeavoured to pick out some bottles from the crowd to ease you into the auction.
This month we have some particularly nice bottles from the Orkney islands, Scotland’s own land of the midnight sun. This Highland Park 1958 Vintage spent 40 years maturing in oak and comes with a rather impressive decanter and book signed by the distillery’s old manager, Jim Robertson. A fantastic example of an older Highland Park, and a special bottling indeed.
Sticking with the Orcadian theme these Highland Park 1988 Perfections were released by famed Italian bottlers Samaroli to celebrate their 50th anniversary in the industry. With over 5 decades worth of experience the Samaroli brand has gained legendary status by now, developing a reputation for selecting only the finest casks for bottling.
Duncan Taylor & Co own one of the largest privately held collections of Scotch whisky casks on the planet, and their releases are often unfairly overlooked despite their undoubted quality. This Highland Park 1968 40 Year Old showcases the depths of their collection and represents the finest in Orcadian distilling.
Independent bottlings aren’t always as prized as official releases, even when they are curated by seasoned professionals with years of tasting experience. However, if you want to get your hands on an old Karuizawa then independent bottlers are the only way to go and this Karuizawa 1974 Single Cask #6409 is a particularly well-aged release from Number One Drinks that should suit the bill. Ex-sherry and bottled almost 4 decades after distillation this is a fantastic bottle and worth every penny of its eventual hammer price.
This is merely the tip of the iceberg, there are literally thousands more bottles to choose from this month so get your scrolling finger ready and start building that watchlist.
Best of luck to everyone in the auction this month, and don’t lose your bottle!
