In 1869 the Ripy brothers opened their distillery on Wild Turkey Hill in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Wild Turkey Bourbon got its name in 1940 when distillery executive Thomas McCarthy took samples of the bourbon on a wild turkey hunting trip.
The distillery praises their master distiller Jimmy Russell who is the longest-tenured active master distiller in the world and learned techniques from Ernest W. Ripy, son of the original distiller. Famous in the bourbon world, Jimmy Russell has been at the distillery through consistent success after success.
Master’s Keep Series:
Master’s Keep Voyage is part of Wild Turkey’s “Master’s Keep” series, which features innovative and limited-release bourbons. Finished in Jamaican rum casks, this is the first time Wild Turkey has finished bourbon in rum casks. This unique spirit, developed in collaboration with Joy Spence of Appleton Estate, aims to capture the essence of both bourbon and rum-making.
