Anitigua Distillery Ltd was established in 1932. Having been granted a lease from the Antiguan govenrnment to establish the distillery plant, which consisted of a 3-column Savalle still from France. They also aquired Montpellier sugar estate, which allowed them to take control of the quality of their molasses, allowing them to become self sufficient in creating their heavy, full-bodied rum.
In the 60’s, with a shift in worldwide rum preferences, Antigua Distillery Ltd started to produce a lighter golden rum called Cavalier Antigua Rum. It wasn’t until 1990 when English Harbour rum was born and continue to make to this day.
