Native Aberdonian, James Catto, debuted his blended range of Scotch Whisky in 1861. His coastal home town’s proximity to the Speyside and Highland regions of Scotland’s mainland whisky belt heavily factored into the meticulously crafted recipe of his debut blend - Catto’s Rare Old Scottish Highland Scotch.
It’s inception into the market was enhanced drastically by the rising domination of international shipping giants such as P&O, and White Star. Catto had friends in high places within the transport industry which lended to getting his blend on the shelves in far flung corners and in high volumes. Today, the Ardagh Group and Royston labels have given Catto’s blends a fresh new pivot in an ever changing market.
