Lot number: 173-03099

Winning bid: £20

Ardmore remains among the more traditional and uncelebrated distilleries, it’s first official bottling was only 2007.

Built to provide whisky for the Teacher’s blend in 1898, this Highland distilleries main production is a peated whisky, but there is also a non-peated version called Ardlair (affectionately known as Ardless) which accounts for around 40% of its output. Due to how prominent and significant its role as a base for a blend is, Ardmore is rarely found as an official single malt, but there is now a growing demand for independent bottlings.

Ardmore was the second last distillery to shift from coal to steam fired stills. While onsite maltings ceased in 1976, the floor maltings were removed to enable further expansion. The distillery is also one of only a handful to still maintain its own cooperage on site.

Ardmore Legacy was introduced in 2014 as a replacement for Traditional. A mix of 80% peated and 20% unpeated malt, this is full-bodied, dry and spicy.

40% ABV / 70cl
