Convalmore 1981 Fentallach
Lot number: 173-03252
Winning bid: £320
Convalmore was founded in 1894 by Convalmore-Glenlivet Distillers Co. Ltd, with construction being completed the same year. It was sold to W&P Lowrie & Co. Ltd. in 1904, who went into partnership with James Buchanan in 1906, and used the Convalmore single malt as part of his Black & White blend. The distillery later became part of Scottish Malt Distillers, (SMD) eventually Distiller’s Company Ltd (now Diageo) in 1925. In 1909, the distillery was damaged in a fire and when it re-opened a year later it contained a pair of pot stills and a new continuous still which had been engineered to produce malt whisky. Sadly, there are no descriptions or plans for this innovative design which only ran for five years.
