Established in 1918 as a single estate distillery in Trinidad and Tobago, Caroni owned and self-supplied its own sugar cane crop and operating at near full capacity until 1993. Unfortunately, due to industry consolidation, the distillery closed in 2002 and was almost lost to history when Luca Gargano from Italy happened upon the boarded up distillery in 2004. After learning about its sad fate and that the warehouse was still full of barrels, Luca spent the next few years ensuring the barrels were sold and bottled so that we can enjoy this fantastic - and now very collectable - rum today.
Master of Malt started as a small whisky post service in 1985 which then progressed into a shop in 1990. Seven years later, the online store was born and since then Master of Malt has built a thriving, community-led company and has won several awards.
