Elixir Vegetal Chartreuse dates back to 1605 when The Duke of Estrees entrusted the Carthusians with a manuscript bearing a mysterious recipe made up of 130 plants that could give rise to an “Elixir of long life”. More than a century and a half later in 1764, the Carthusians readied what they called “Plant Elixir of the Grand Chartreuse”. The recipe for this mighty elixir has not changed since.
Comes packaged in a wooden case which is said to protect it from light and conserve the liquid inside.
