Starward Fortis Batch #5

In a country known for its New World wines, it seems apt that Australia’s Starward Distillery ages the majority of its whiskies in red wine barrels. Production is based in Melbourne - recognised as a city with a thriving food and drink scene - where they are surrounded by world-class wineries in the slightly cooler climate which is, of course, suited to whisky production.

Starward Fortis is a big, bold single malt Australian whisky, which was matured entirely in American oak barrels that were previously home to Australian red wine. After maturation, Fortis is bottled up at 50% ABV, and it’s bottled without chill-filtration. It’s brilliant stuff, suitable for sipping neat, but flavoursome enough to stand up to being used in all kinds of cocktails.
