Winning bid: £130
Penderyn - named after the historic village in which it is located - is Wales’ only single malt whisky, produced at a rate of just one cask per day in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons at one of the smallest distilleries in the world. The distillery was appropriately launched on St David’s Day in 2004 and overseen by HRH the Prince of Wales. Using fresh spring water from the hills and local barley, Penderyn has made a name for itself and gained popularity throughout the world.
Sixth in the ‘Icons Of Wales’ series, this Peated Portwood finished Penderyn commemorates the original Welsh Whisky distillery at Frongoch which was liquidated in 1900 before being wound up in 1903.
