Maker’s Mark Keeneland Bottling 2013 Dan Issel 75cl
Lot number: 175-03564
Winning bid: £220
With nothing but a copy of a 170 year old whiskey recipe, Bill Samuels, Sr set out to create a Bourbon that wouldn’t “blow his ears off”. In an ingenious twist, Samuels, Sr decided to bake loaves of bread made up of various grains to drastically save time distilling. Further, by selecting soft, red winter wheat to replace the traditional rye grains common within Bourbon, he was able to create the sweet delicate taste which distinguishes Maker’s from the rest. His co-founder was Margie Samuels, the first woman involved in distilling to be inducted to the Hall of Fame. She was known for influencing many elements of Makers - the shape of the bottle, the appearance of the label and the recognisable red wax topper and the name of Maker’s itself owe their existence to Margery.
