Built in 1972 - at an optimistic time in the industry - to produce single malt whisky for blends such as J&B, Auchroisk was the first single malt to be bottled under ‘The Singleton’ banner. The maturation process involved the 10 Year Old Bourbon-matured whisky being moved into Sherry casks for two years, making it among the first examples of cask finishing.
Perhaps due to the boom in production at the time of Auchroisk’s construction, the sizeable distillery has a large number of warehouses. Since 2001, the Singleton name was abandoned and Auchroisk began using the branding of the Flora & Fauna series. The Gaelic name ‘Auchroisk’ translates to - The ford across the red stream.
A limited edition, natural cask strength single malt from Auchroisk, an active distillery on Speyside, which is rarely seen as a single malt. The 30 year old marks the second limited release in this series. It is also the oldest Auchroisk ever released by the distillers.
Interesting to compare with the 20 year old, released in 2010.
