Borders Distillery Malt & Rye
Lot number: 177-00373
Winning bid: £20
The Borders distillery first opened in March 2018, founded by John Fordyce, Tim Carton, Tony Roberts, and George Tait, all veterans of the Scotch Whisky industry. They had a vision of bringing distilling back to the Borders by building the first whisky distillery in the region since 1837.
The distillery is dedicated to capturing the true spirit of the borders, and bringing whisky making back to the region. The town of Hawick has a famous history of manufacturing. It’s where cashmere was king and where tweed was invented. There is a spirit of invention and enterprise in the town that inspires the team in everything they do.
The distillery is an award-winning conversion of Hawick’s former electrical works, a prominent landmark in the town since 1903.
‘The Long & Short Of It’ is an experiment in fermentation. They have combined two different fermentations. The short fermentations of just 55 hours, and a long fermentations of 150 hours are matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, before being married with single grain whisky.
