Wire Works Whisky from White Peak Distillery is Derbyshire’s very first Single Malt. Commissioned in early 2018 with the first distillation taking place in April that year, it wasn’t until February 2022 when their first Wire Works Whisky was released. The “Wire Works” name comes from the sight of the distillery, as it’s built on the former Johnson & Nephew wire works on the banks of the river Derwent. The area was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in December 2001.
An experiment using two ‘identical’ ex-red wine casks, filled the same month but matured in different locations of the warehouse (upper and lower dunnages). This explores the differences of warehouse location (temperature, humidity, air flow).
