Lot number: 178-02239

Winning bid: £70

Deanston is housed in a former cotton mill on the banks of the fast-flowing River Teith, in the central Highlands that dates back to the late eighteenth century. The buildings were converted in to a distillery in 1966. It was acquired by Invergordon in 1972, but ceased production in 1982 and was mothballed until 1990.

Deanston is now operated by Distell and has managed to retain some old-style features in its kit and distilling regime. Its mash tun is open-topped, while the way the distillery is run – low gravity worts, long fermentation times and slow distillation helps to produce a new make which has a slightly waxy style.
