Although Direct Wines are the world’s largest mail-order wine retailer operating in the UK, France and the New World regions, the company also provides independent whisky bottlings. The most well-known of their ranges is perhaps the First Cask series showcasing single cask whiskies bottled at 46% ABV from a wide variety of distilleries. As with their wines, customers can order a mixed case of whiskies in order to enjoy different spirits. Signatory provide the whiskies, so Direct Wines definitely have a range to choose from. The blended Old Harry malt whisky is also produced by the company.
Brora
This Brora dram was distilled just a year prior to the 1983 “great cull” of Scottish distilleries which occurred after the increase in demand following the war began to slow for the first time in 1980. In a bid to protect the highly profitable Scottish blends from this drop in demand, a number of smaller distilleries were closed. This has resulted in bottling’s from this time period being highly sought after so this is definitely not one to miss!
