Ardent Spirits is an independent bottler founded in 2021 by Michael Bain . They also own Burnobennie Distillery in Banchory, Deeside. They hunt down exceptional single casks from distilleries across Scotland and bring them straight from cask to bottle.
In 2024 the company purchased Dark Matter, Scotland’s first rum distillery, and in 2025 they also purchased independent bottling company, Chapter 7 after the company went into liquidation in October the same year. This latest acquisition is said to mark a ‘strategic expansion’ of Ardent’s spirits portfolio. In addition to this, Ardent has invested in a new bottling hall in Banchory, Scotland, to boost capacity for its existing whisky bottling contracts and creating additional space to meet packaging enquiries.
Invergordon:
Located in the North-East of Scotland, Invergordon is one of the only grain distilleries found in the Highlands. These distilleries are usually found in Central Scotland due to the diversity of grains and easy transportation. It was in 1951 that Invergordon was founded, but only began operating in 1961. Four years later, Invergordon was home to the Ben Wyvis Single Malt which closed after twelve years and relocated to Glengyle. Over the years, its ownership has passed through many hands before Whyte & MacKey held on in 1993.
