The 8 Doors name is inspired from Jan De Groot, the man that John O’Groats takes it’s name from. It is said to avoid family conflict between himself and his 7 sons on who should sit at the head of the table during family gatherings, Jan built an octagonal house with eight doors, one for each of his sons and himself. Each door lead to the middle of the house that contained an eight sided table. This meant none of the family could sit at the head of the table and stopped the arguments they had between them.
