Founded in 1820, and originally called Townhead, the distillery spent most of its life under the name North Port although there are several bottlings under the town’s name Brechin. The distillery was run by the Guthrie family until Diageo took over in 1922.
Another victim of the 1983 cull and demolished in 1994 to make room for a supermarket, the distillery’s output was mostly used for blending; however, North Port was released as part of Diageo’s Rare Malt and Special Releases series.
