Opening in late 2017 and as one of the new kids on the block, GlenWyvis was started with the intention of rejuvenating rural Dingwall by introducing a community-run ‘craft’ distillery. It was John McKenzie - a helicopter pilot who developed his interest in whisky by flying passengers to remote distilleries - who had the idea to combine the names of lost distilleries, Ben Wyvis and Glenskiach and launch a crowdfunding campaign in order to build the site. Other than the GlenWyvis gin released in 2018 and a few 3 Year Old bottlings provided to shareholders, the first commercially-available spirit won’t be released until it reaches optimum maturity.
